Observed from sunset each Friday until darkness falls on Saturday, Shabbat (Sabbath) is a day of rest to study, spend time with family and friends, and focus on the divine. In traditional Jewish homes, the woman of the house welcomes Shabbot by lighting at least two candles after saying a blessing just before sundown. Before the family meal there are also a blessings over wine and bread. This matching wine cup and candlesticks by Michael Ende enhance the ritual in the tradition known as hiddur mitzvah; keeping the commandments in the most beautiful way possible.
