Lobed Celadon Brush Washer

Aoki Mokubei, a potter, painter, and scholar, probably made this small bowl, which used to hold water for washing one’s calligraphy and paint brushes. Mokubei’s porcelain works tend to relate to scholarly pursuits, Chinese learning, and sencha or steeped-tea ceremony.
