Alexander Calder, Spear Thrower, the Sultan of Senegambia, 1926–1931. Wire, metal, cloth, wood and string, overall (variable): 13 3/4 × 19 × 7 3/4 in. (34.9 × 48.3 × 19.7 cm). Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; purchase, with funds from a public fundraising campaign in May 1982. One half of the funds were contributed by the Robert Wood Johnson Jr. Charitable Trust.
