Alexander Calder, Seals, 1926–1931. Painted wood, metal, wire, cork and plastic ball, overall: 8 1/4 × 19 5/8 × 5 in. (21 × 49.9 × 12.7 cm). Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; purchase, with funds from a public fundraising campaign in May 1982. One half of the funds were contributed by the Robert Wood Johnson Jr. Charitable Trust.
