Joseph Gilbert Totten

Fort Totten is a familiar name to the many train and bus riders who pass through that Metro station near the Maryland border. The station, the adjoining park, the surrounding neighborhood, and several local streets were all named after Joseph Gilbert Totten, a U.S. Civil War Union general and co-founder of the National Academy of Sciences.
