A Committee of Safety musket (a) and wooden hexagonal nut (b), made circa 1770s. This .80 caliber musket is constructed of a medium dark walnut stock. Its butt plate, trigger guard, proper right lock plate, frizzen, breech, and barrel bands are brass, it has a stored iron ramrod, and there are no discernable lock plate markings. The proper left side of the breech is engraved, “SS”, along the stock and there are scattered/unclear engravings between the space of the barrel and stock on the proper left side.
