This globular shaped flask is decorated in copper-red with a formal lotus scroll bearing twelve large blossoms and six smaller ones all symmetrically positioned within an overall tendril design executed in underglaze blue. Flasks of this type with strap-shaped handles were popular during the Yung-cheng (1723-35) and early Ch'ien-lung reigns (1736-95) when they were produced in a variety of glazes and decorative techniques.
