With its dramatic perspective and cropping, this close-up view of a golden eagle diving for prey is one of the most iconic designs not only of this series, but of all the Japanese woodblock prints produced since about 1700. The coast that is depicted here is Jūmantsubo, reclaimed marshland first developed in the 1720s as a place to bring garbage from the city. In the far distance is the snow-capped Mount Tsukuba. These two impressions are late versions. At top is version no. 7 and below it is version no. 8, the last version, with very dark sky to suggest a night view.
