Nymphs and Satyrs Entwined in a Vine

This double woodcut is among the earliest surviving wallpaper examples in existence. Sebald Beham found the model for his satyr in a print by his stylistic mentor, Albrecht Dürer. Although this effusive grapevine design was also issued with a black background, these sheets were printed with only the outline, to allow for hand-coloring.
