Octagonal vase with carved decoration

This vase is an outstanding example of the use of complex archaic motifs derived from ancient bronzes. The carving of the porcelain echoes the decoration found on early bronzes, and the slight thinning and thickening of the glazes on the relief and recessed areas bring clarity to the design. The decoration, composed in nine bands, contains leaf motifs and dragon and phoenix designs.
