On the body of this robe, there are eight multicolored medallions with three figures in garden settings with rocks, flowers associated with good fortune, and pavilions. These medallions sit among a scattered scheme of butterflies, paired double gourds, and seasonal flowers (chrysanthemum, magnolia, lotus, rose, cassia, and narcissus), all embroidered against a black satin ground. This is a casual decorative scheme, and it is notably combined with much formal pattern on the hem: gold and silver mountains and ocean waves, which are usually seen in more formal imperial robes.
