Artists of the Kaigetsudō school, whose designs dominated the market during the early 18th century, specialized in depicting beautiful women from the floating world. Unlike the reserved paintings by the so-called Kanbun masters of the 1660s and 70s, Kaigetsudō artists created a bolder ideal, portraying women of overt glamour and haughty sensuality.
