Lustreware, or ceramics decorated with metalic glazes, were popular with many social classes in England and America during the first half of the nineteenth century. The vibrant copper, gold, and silver colors available on lustreware imitated more expensive metal objects. The reflective qualities of lustreware also made it condusive to capturing natural and artificial light in rooms.
