
Nakashima Yasushi was born in Hyogo prefecture and graduated from the Kyoto Municipal University of Art in 1962. While still at university he was accepted into the prestigious Mainichi Industrial Design exhibition. He began his career as a car designer before working as a lighting designer. In 1974, he became an independent artist, focused on glass and ceramic while also maintaining contacts in the design world. He showed at numerous national exhibitions including the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition and was received awards at a number of important events, including the National Craft Exhibition, National Modern Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition, and the Shigaraki Ceramics Exhibition.
