Predators addresses the continuing controversy over the use of animal skins and fur in the fashion industry. Coe stages a scene of suffering, one caused by human vanity. She juxtaposes a group of women who wear coats made from the skins of big cats with images of the torment those animals endure through caging and trapping. The women stand before an animal display, chatting among themselves, oblivious to the suffering of the caged leopard “ghosts.” One ghost peers back through the bars of its cage, while one roars in agony, its foot crushed in a trap.
