This 18th-century teapot from Leeuwarden, the capital of the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands, employs lively and delightful repoussé decoration (areas of silver are “pushed out” from the inside to rough out the decoration) then chased (the silver is detailed on the outside to refine the decoration with the use of punches). A hunting scene is the main feature, with a lively dog bounding toward a goose, while the sun and its rays shine behind them. Interspersed in the scene and elsewhere on the pot are Rococo C-scrolls, popular elements of the Rococo style in the mid-to-late 18th century in Europe. More animals and figures appear on the spout (either a goose or a dolphin) and the handle (a cherub).
