According to Daoism, in the seas off China’s east coast are the three paradisiacal isles: Hōko (Square Kettle; Ch.: Fanghu), Hōrai (Ch.: Penglai), and Eishū (Sea Island; Ch.: Yingzhou). The height and perimeter of each mountain is 15, 000 km, and one could supposedly find pills of immortality there, but the mountainous islands were unreachable by mankind and all expeditions in search of them failed.
