Zhong Kui Traveling

According to traditional Chinese beliefs, great mountains are mysterious and possibly dangerous realms, inhabited by deities as well as ghosts and monsters. This painting shows Zhong Kui, the demon-tamer deity, traveling throughout his domain in order to eliminate any evil beings he might encounter along the way. Holding an umbrella as protection from the sun, he rides in a sedan chair carried by three demons he has conquered.
