Kamoda created many variations of his trademark wave pattern. Here, he carved the surface of the gray body of the vessel and then filled the shallow voids with lighter ivory-colored clay. The subtle contrast between the two hues, one cool, the other warm, produces a soft effect, enhanced by the gentle undulations of the hand-built body of the vessel and the purposely uneven trimming of the mouth. Kamoda created works that could be admired visually and also used; he glazed the interior of the jar so that it could safely hold liquid.
