The inscriptions refer to the artists Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678), and Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665). Poussin's painting, "The Shepherds of Arcadia," 1627, belongs to the Duke of Devonshire and the Chatsworth Settlement Trustees.
