This impression is printed from three blocks, with one printed in a dark ink, as is conventional. The other two blocks, however, are printed with the same color (sanguine red), and the distinctions in the design are created by the density of the ink layer, rather than two different lighter tones, as is usual. The dealer from whom this was purchased had a comparably printed impression of another print in the set which in its second state gains the mark of its publisher, Andreani; it lacked this mark, and thus by association this is also a first state.
