Maharaja Ranbir Singh of Jammu and Kashmir with Sons and Courtiers

Ranbir Singha (1830-1885) was a Pahari raja and son of the founder of the Jammu and Kashmir state, which he ruled for almost 30 years. He established a modern judicial code and a silk factory in his state and was a scholar of the Sanskrit and Persian languages. One of his four sons—it is not known which one—sits beside him for this portrait.
