The chrysanthemums in underglaze iron oxide of this bowl of Kyoto ware have a casual feel, which is emphasized by the bowl's shape. When held, the its slightly ridged body would gently massage one’s palms, contributing to the sensory, tactile experience of the piece and possibly generating a sense of comfort and ease. The inside of the box lid has a seal indicating that the bowl was included in a renewal opening of the gallery Manjudo in Tokyo.
