In the Studio

Made in the final years of Lovis Corinth’s life, this self-portrait shows him standing in his studio with his wife, Charlotte, posed behind him in the nude with shaded features. Corinth had suffered a stroke in 1911, but with the help of Charlotte he continued to make art focusing largely on his family life. Charlotte’s presence indicates her importance to him as both supporter and muse.
