Gertrude Kuh Papers

Chicago landscape architect Gertrude Eisendrath Deimel Kuh graduated from the Lowthorpe School of Horticulture and Landscape Design (Groton, Massachusetts) in 1917 and subsequently apprenticed with Ellen Biddle Shipman, 1918–1922. From the 1930s to her retirement in the early 1970s, Kuh designed at least four hundred projects in the Chicago area, primarily for residential sites, in an elegant Modernist style that complemented the contemporary houses of her clients.
