This sampler presents 24 variations of nitik patterns, which employ short lines and dots in the batik technique to imitate woven patterns. Each pattern is identified by name. Included are nitik imitations of costly imported Indian silk patolu weavings as well as nitik patterns organized in a patchwork of ovals, paisleys (boteh), or squares, as seen here. Indonesians of Arab descent are particularly known for practicing this style.Batik Textiles of Java, April 21-September 17, 2017
