Proposed William Granger Ryan Fine Arts Center

Each of the museums seen here proposes a complex of independent units rather than concentrating all of its resources into one building. Reflecting the fragmented and complex agendas of these institutions, diverse elements are scattered throughout the sites in a cultural complex that functions like a city. In the case of Tadao Ando’s Villa Museum, the project is as much a part of the landscape as it is an exhibition space. For the Ryan Fine Arts Center, Philip Johnson proposed a strategy that allows for a more porous relationship between the college’s fine arts programs and other parts of the campus community.
