Large yabane (arrow feathers) fly up and down this kimono, creating a dynamic sense of movement. The white shafts of the blue and red arrow feathers further emphasize the implied motion and verticality of the patterning. Peonies, superimposed on each of the arrow feathers, soften the overall graphic design. An old motif with military associations relating to archery, yabane images traditionally appear on kimono worn in samurai households.
