In 1966 Sol LeWitt wrote that "the serial artist does not attempt to produce a beautiful or mysterious object but functions merely as a clerk cataloging the results of the premise." No other artist has been more consistent than LeWitt in creating conceptual systems—such as this one—and realizing them in a wide variety of media.
