About
Joseph Anton Koch was a painter, printmaker, and writer who never received any formal training. Inspired by the Italian landscape during his visits to Rome, Koch created images such as Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Rome. The grandeur of the basilica, which was named for Saints John and Paul, dominates the scene, overwhelming the pilgrims and procession.
