The Ballets Russes performed in Paris in 1909-10 and in Vienna in 1912-13, and Bakst's stage and costume designs were received with tremendous enthusiasm by critics and the public. Poiret in Paris and the Wiener Werkstätte in Vienna were also won over, and their textile paterns became brighter in color and bolder in scale. Bakst designed many Diaghilev productions between 1909 and 1921.
