Vincent S. Coster, an Irish artist and poet, has a multifaceted art practice that spans several mediums including oil painting, pastels, digital art, and photography. Beginning his journey in 1999 with oil paints, Coster has continually evolved, incorporating pastels and digital techniques into his repertoire. His work is deeply influenced by the natural world, with a particular focus on Ireland's serene and sometimes melancholic landscapes. He lived in the UK for a while, where his practice diminished as he was a stay-at-home father, and due to lack of space, time and inspiration. However, his recent return to Ireland has seen him re-engage with his practice. Coster's style blends traditional methods with modern expressionism, drawing inspiration from masters like Matisse and Van Gogh, Jack B. Yeats and Paul Henry especially. He counteracts his severe colourblindness by using bold vivid colours, or a subtle almost monochromatic palette when painting. This will often lead to surprising colour combinations. In addition to his visual art, Coster is a prolific poet, with numerous collections that delve into themes of nature, identity, and human experience. This dual talent enriches his artistic output, allowing for a deep, interdisciplinary perspective that resonates across his visual and written works.
