G. B. Gething British, active 1850s G. B. Gething, a topographical photographer active in Britain, was presumably from the vicinity of Newport, to whose camera club he belonged in the late 1850s. Influenced by the painting of the time -- which often took a respectful, even worshipful approach to nature in deference to the recent revelations of science -- his landscapes were sensitive, naturalistic, sometimes picturesque renderings of outdoor subjects, especially water. Gething contributed to the album of the Photographic Society (later the Royal Photographic Society) in 1855 and exhibited at their expositions in 1856-58. He exhibited at the Société française de photographie in 1856 and 1857. T.W.F.
