Eduard Steinberg (also called Edik Steinberg, Эдуард Штейнберг) was a Russian and French non-conformist painter, philosopher and activist. Steinberg was born in Moscow, the son of the poet, translator and artist Arkady Steinberg. He was born in the tragic year of 1937 - the key year of mass Stalinist political repressions in the USSR, which was also the year when his father Arkady Steinberg was arrested for the first time. The invisible stigmatizing label of “son of an enemy of the people” accompanied him throughout his life and constantly poisoned his existence in the Soviet Union.
